My husband and I just came back from a 3 night stay at Cape Sienna last weekend and we are so glad that we decided on this resort out of the myriad of choices in Phuket. The airport transfer was arranged by our travel agent but upon arrival at the resort, we were greeted by very friendly bell boys who helped us with our luggage up to the lobby on the 1st floor. The reception staff was warm and friendly and immediately provided us with welcome drinks, cool towels and a choice of scents for the toiletries to be used in our room! How nice! The check-in didn’t take more than 10mins and we were shown to our room right after.
The resort is very new and has a hip and modern, minimalist kind of feel to it. We had booked a Jacuzzi C-view room and we were very pleased with the privacy of the room (as the Jacuzzi is located on the balcony). The view from the room was simply breathtaking! Complete unblocked view of the sea! It was really nice to soak in the tub in the afternoon, looking out into the blue horizon with a chilled glass of sparkling wine in your hand…Some of the reviewers here had mentioned that the Jacuzzi takes a long time to fill up (water pressure is a little low) and I do agree on that point. However, you are on holiday and you can always occupy your time with a book or TV while waiting for the tub to fill, so, don’t fret over it. It is a rather big tub!
The room we had was spacious and well appointed, although the mattress was a bit too firm for my liking. Also, what would make the room more complete for me would be an iPod dock, but I’m really being picky here.
The pool at the resort is not too big, it’s more like a lap pool for guests to cool off after their tanning session. Food quality at their Plum restaurant is quite good and the restaurant is beautifully designed. There is a very nice outdoor seating area which faces the sea, and an air-conditioned area with a small mezzanine as well. Their Vanilla Sky bar right at the rooftop is another good area to chill and enjoy the sunset and sea breeze. Breakfast was included in our room rate but I would rate their breakfast quality as average, some hits and misses there.
Prices at their spa are charged at hotel rates but the service and skill of their therapists is very good and I would recommend trying their massages or treatments at least once. Because we were there during low season, we got a 50% discount on their Thai massage, which I thought was a very good deal.
In terms of location, Kamala beach is surely not the most happening area if you require lots of nightlife. It is a good place to be if you prefer some peace and serenity in the evenings and you’ve already been to Phuket several times. Patong is but 20mins away by tuk-tuk, motorbike or by car, so it’s close enough to some excitement and shopping and far enough to provide tranquility if you so desire. The resort does provide free transport to Patong if needed.
Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our stay at Cape Sienna very much and we are glad to have made the right choice staying there. I think the only major downside for some folks (but not for me really) would be the construction that’s still going on in the surrounding areas. In fact, Cape Sienna themselves are still finishing up the construction of their villa units in front of their hotel, so if you decide to stay in at the resort during the afternoon, you will definitely hear construction noise when lounging at the pool. This will not be a problem at night though. I believe the area will be much more hospitable in 6-9 months’ time when all construction work should be completed, but I will still give Cape Sienna two thumbs up and will certainly recommend it for couples looking for a romantic getaway (check out their adults concept policy)!
